A carnivorous pitcher plant that eats rats and insects has been discovered in the Philippines and named after Sir David Attenborough.
The plant is among the largest of all pitchers and is believed to be the largest meat-eating shrub, dissolving rats with acid-like enzymes.

What is the world’s biggest or largest flower? The record holder is the Titan Arum, or the “corpse flower.” When the flower is fully bloomed, it is said to smell like a rotting corpse. It is about 3m (10ft) tall and is native to Sumatra, Indonesia. The giant ‘corpse flower’ blooms only occasionally.

Scientists from the International Institute for Species Exploration at Arizona State University and an international committee of taxonomists released a list of the Top 10 species discovered in 2008. These are new species, considered “unknowns” before their discoveries last year. The list includes the world’s smallest snake and a caffeine-free coffee plant. 1. Pygmy seahorse: Classified by its Latin name, Hippocampus satomiae, this species measures about half an inch long and was found near Derawan Island off Kalimantan, Indonesia.
