Here is a list with pictures of fish that have animal names in them! Did you ever think that there is actually a goosefish and a squirrelfish?

Dogfish – also known as a cat shark fish. It usually refers to a type of shark.


Catfish – named for their prominent barbels, which resemble a cat’s whiskers.

Parrotfish – are named for their dentition, which also is distinct from that of other Labrids. Their numerous teeth are arranged in a tightly packed mosaic on the external surface of the jaw bones, forming a parrot-like beak.

Goatfish – Like goats, they seek anything edible; worms, crustaceans, molluscs and other small invertebrates are staples.

Cowfish – It comes in a variety of different colors, and is notable for the hexagonal or “honeycomb” patterns in itsr skin and skeletons.

Batfishes – have broad, flat heads and slim bodies and are covered with hard lumps and spines. Some species have an elongated, upturned snout. Most live in the deep sea, but some inhabit shallow water.

Lionfish – The lionfish is also known as the Turkey Fish, Scorpion or Fire Fish.

Pigfish – often mistaken for their close cousin, pinfish, are actually members of the grunt family.

Lizardfish – has slender, somewhat cylindrical body, and head that resembles that of a lizard.

Frogfish – have a stocky appearance, atypical of fish. Frogfishes are found in almost all tropical and subtropical oceans and seas around the world.

Wolffish – Wolffishes are a family, Anarhichadidae, of perciform fishes. They are native to cold waters of the northern Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, where they live on the continental shelf and slope, to depths of about 600 m.

Tigerfish – is the common name for a variety of species from several different families of fish, usually on account of their colouration or otherwise fearsome appearance.

Goosefish – they have a very large head with a large mouth that bears long, sharp, recurved teeth.

Scorpionfish – As the name suggests, scorpionfish have a type of “sting” in the form of sharp spines coated with venomous mucus.

Zebrafish – It is a popular aquarium fish, frequently sold under the trade name zebra danio, and is an important vertebrate model organism in scientific research.

Squirrelfish – Squirrel fish live in rocky or coral reefs in tropical and warm temperate seas. Their most distinguishing characteristics are their large eyes and their ability to make sounds to ward off intruders.

Rabbitfish – found in shallow lagoons, have small, hare-like mouths, large dark eyes, and a peaceful temperament. They are colorful, and have well developed, venomous dorsal and anal fin spines.

Hawkfish – have large heads with thick, somewhat elongate bodies. Most hawkfish are solitary in nature but some will form pairs and share a head of coral.
