Weird Holidays Around The World

These weird holidays may not be weird from those who celebrate them. But for others who live in countries where throwing of tomatoes and running from bulls are strange, then the photos below may make you say OMG.

Some weird and strange holidays from around the world:

Spain – La Tomatina – La tomatina is becoming more popular, the biggest tomato party in Bunol, Valencia, Spain. It is a food fight festival held on the last Wednesday of August each year.

Japan – Hadaka Matsuri – participants wear a minimum amount of clothing; usually just a Japanese loincloth (called fundoshi), sometimes with a short happi coat, and very rarely completely naked. Hadaka Matsuri happens every February.

Italy – Ivrea Carnival – Ivrea Carnival is the battle of the oranges. Held annually, 40 days before lent, over 400 tons of oranges are used as missiles.

Philippines – Semana Santa – Elaborate processions and celebrations during Holy Week. The penitents may walk the streets barefoot wearing chains or carrying crosses in imitation of Christ’s Passion. The Passion play notoriously ends with the actual crucifixion of three participants.

UK – Straw Bear Day – It was the custom on the Tuesday following Plough Monday (the 1st Monday after Twelfth Night) to dress one of the confraternity of the plough in straw and call him a ‘Straw Bear’.

Australia – Bonza Bottler Day – a holiday once a month when the number of the month coincides with the number of the day (April 4, May 5, June 6, etc.).
