There was an email hoax before showing a list of IQ for the U.S. Presidents. The list showed Bill Clinton having the highest IQ (182) among all Presidents in U.S. history and George W. Bush having the lowest (91). But it was a fake list generated by a non-existing Lovenstein Institute.
However, in 2006, a study called “Presidential IQ, Openness, Intellectual Brilliance, and Leadership: Estimates and Correlations for 42 U.S. Chief Executives” published in the “Political Psychology” journal, estimated the IQs for all US presidents.
Here is the list of the Top 10 Highest IQs among US Presidents, averaged from two periods of biographical data, the first from birth to age 17 and the second from age 18 to age 26:
1. John Quincy Adams (1825-1829) — IQ = 175.0

2. Thomas Jefferson (1801-1809) — IQ = 156.7

3. John F. Kennedy (1961-1963) — IQ = 154.6

4. Bill Clinton (1993-2001) — IQ = 153.2

5. Jimmy Carter (1977-1981) — IQ = 150.1

6. John Adams (1797-1801) — IQ = 150.0

7. Woodrow Wilson (1913-1921) — IQ = 149.2

8. James Madison (1809-1817) — IQ = 148.3

9. Theodore Roosevelt (1901-1909) — IQ = 146.5

10. James A. Garfield (March 1881 – September 1881) — IQ = 145.7
